Biography
9 September 1941, Fulham, London, England. Power was one of several British vocalists, including Marty Wilde, Billy Fury and Dickie Pride, signed to the Larry Parnes stable. Having completed a series of unsuccessful pop singles for Fontana Records, including ‘Dream Lover’ and ‘Kissin’ Time’, the singer parted company with both Parnes and Fontana and embraced R&B in 1963 with a pulsating version of the Beatles’ ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ on which he was backed by the Graham Bond Quartet. Power’s other singles for Parlophone Records included ‘Tired, Broke and Busted’, which featured support from the Paramounts, but he later supplemented his solo career by joining Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated.
