This Christian rock band, which is usually listed as downhere, was formed by Marc Martel (Quebec, Canada; vocals/guitar), Jason Germain (b. Ontario, Canada; vocals, guitar, keyboards), Tyson Manning (bass) and Jeremy Thiessen (b. British Columbia, Canada; drums). The original quartet met at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Saskatchewan in 1996, and formed a band inspired by their love of both God and alternative rock music. Their independently released debut album made a few waves at the end of the 90s, but after slogging around the live circuit for several years the bands major breakthrough came when moved to Nashville, Tennessee, USA and signed a recording contract with the established Christian label Word Records. Glenn Lavender (b. Ontario, Canada) replaced Manning shortly before Word re-released a new version of the bands debut album. The recording went on to earn the band a Juno Award for Best Gospel Album. The follow-up, So Much For...
