Biography
21 April 1946, New York City, New York, USA. A singer-songwriter whose unadulterated enthusiasm for his craft has won him many fans, MacLeod prefers to rely on original material rather than blues standards to impress. Yet he was originally inhibited by a severe lack of confidence, to the extent that he would disguise his own songs as obscure selections from Muddy Waters or Howlin Wolfs back catalogue. As a child MacLeods family moved to St. Louis, where he had the opportunity to watch B.B. King perform. He was subsequently heavily influenced by Ernest Banks, a guitarist and singer from Toano, Vancouver, whom MacLeod met in the navy. While in service he also played around the east coast coffee house scene, performing acoustic sets alongside singers such as Emmylou Harris and Juice Newton.
