Biography
Brothers Douglas (6 March 1937, East St. Louis, Illinois, USA; banjo) and Rodney (b. 18 May 1942, East St. Louis, Illinois, USA; guitar) were the founders of the pioneering bluegrass outfit the Dillards. In 1968, Doug left after six reasonably successful years, and joined the Gram Parsons -era Byrds for a few months, before Parsons himself departed. This association led to the formation of the groundbreaking Dillard And Clark, with ex-Byrd Gene Clark, and Bernie Leadon (later with the Eagles), Michael Clarke (another former Byrd) and fiddle champion Byron Berline. Their two albums for A&M Records, The Fantastic Expedition Of Dillard & Clark (1968) and Through The Morning, Through The Night (1969), produced an unusual, but highly successful, blend of bluegrass and southern soul, but internal disputes caused the group to disband soon afterwards. During this time he also released The Banjo Album, which has subsequently become a cult classic.
