Biography
Originating from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, Don Caballero is one of the few post-hardcore bands to specialize in all-instrumental fare, and additionally to have no problem showing off their affection for fusion. The band was formed in 1991 by Damon Che (drums), Mike Banfield (guitar) and Pat Morris (bass). Live shows soon beckoned, and a name was taken from a Canadian television show, SCTV, in which a character, whose name was usually Guy Caballero, was rechristened Don Caballero during a spoof of the movie, The Godfather. Eventually, second guitarist Ian Williams joined and the new-look quartet signed a recording contract with the renowned Chicago based indie label, Touch & Go. They forged a fruitful union with producer Steve Albini and recorded their debut, 1993s For Respect.
