This UK pop rock outfit was the most successful act to emerge from the psychedelic revival of 1981. The band was formed in the early 80s by Clive Jackson (7 July 1961, Liverpool, England; vocals), Steve McGuire (guitar), Richard Searle (bass), Vom (drums), and backing vocalists Wendi West and Collette. Jackson was a part-time DJ who had formed the underground club The Clinic in 1981, and was also instrumental in running the popular nightclub Alice In Wonderland in London’s Soho district. Doctor And The Medics released ‘The Druids Are Here’ 7-inch single on the Whaam! label before landing a major label recording contract with I.R.S. Records. The band came to prominence in 1986 with a cover version of Norman Greenbaum’s 1970 hit ‘Spirit In The Sky’.
