Swedish band Dismember is a product of the increasingly active Scandinavian death metal scene. Like most of their peers, Dismember are rather short on subtlety and originality, but in terms of musical vitriol and intensity, they are a force with which to be reckoned. They have also developed a talent for attracting controversy and outrage, a valuable asset in the shock-hungry death metal genre. Most notably, upon the release of Like An Ever Flowing Stream, several hundred copies were seized at UK customs, as the track Skin Her Alive was deemed obscene. The song dealt with a murder that had taken place in the flat beneath that of vocalist Matti Karki, and the lyrics attempted to explore the thoughts of the killer. Despite widespread mainstream consensus that death metal did not deserve freedom of speech, the album was acquitted of obscenity in court.
