Biography

This punk/thrash band was formed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, in 1981, their name deriving from the German for ‘the crosses’. The band, featuring Dan Kubinski (vocals), Brian Egeness (guitar), Keith Brammer (bass) and Eric Tunison (drums), started life with a highly regarded album of embryonic thrash (incorporating all six tunes from their 1982 debut EP Cows And Beer). Since that debut their material has revealed a much stronger inclination towards traditional rock structures, although they were widely congratulated for bringing intelligence and lyrical diversity to the heavy metal sphere. Century Days, for example, includes both piano and horns on several tracks, while maintaining an allegiance to the band’s traditionally hard sound. Brammer left to join Wreck in 1989. Signed to Chicago independent Touch And Go Records, their 1991 album was produced by Butch Vig (Garbage; Killdozer; Tad; Nirvana).
