Biography
5 May 1972, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. An extraordinarily driven and creative musician, guitarist/vocalist Townsend has recorded a series of critically lauded albums on his own Hevydevy label, while also working on a diverse range of projects with other artists, including Jason Newsteds IR8, James Murphy, the Wildhearts, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Punky Brüster, and Zimmers Hole. He is also a much in-demand producer responsible for notable releases such as Soilworks Natural Born Chaos (2002) and Lamb Of Gods stunning As The Palaces Burn (2003). Beginning his career in local Vancouver band Grey Skies, the 19-year old Townsend sent the bands demo to Relativity Records, which yielded a solo contract with the label and a successful collaboration with Steve Vai in the mid-90s on his Sex & Religion and Fire Garden releases.
