Biography
Formed in 2003 in Santa Barbara, California by Dez Fafara (12 May 1967, USA; vocals) and Evan Pitts (guitar), this US heavy metal band received greater critical acceptance than Fafaras former band, the much-maligned Coal Chamber. The music on DevilDrivers self-titled debut album paid testament to Fafaras wish to indulge in the more extreme side of the rock scene, drawing on black and thrash metal in a genre loosely dubbed groove metal. Jeff Kendrick (guitar), Jon Miller (bass) and John Boecklin (drums) completed the line-up on the 2003 Roadrunner Records release, but critical reaction was muted. A series of well-received tour slots helped establish DevilDrivers profile and tighten up their sound.
