Biography
3 February 1943, Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Dennis Edwards became a member of the Fireworks vocal group in the early 60s, before joining the Contours in 1965. After they split in 1967, he appeared occasionally with the Temptations, becoming a full member of the band when he replaced David Ruffin as lead vocalist in 1968. He remained with them until 1977, lending his dramatic tenor voice to hits such as Cloud Nine, I Cant Get Next To You and Papa Was A Rolling Stone. When the Temptations left Motown Records for Atlantic Records, he chose to remain with the label and begin a solo career. While he was still working on his debut album, the band returned to Motown, and Edwards resumed his position as their lead singer.
