Biography

15 October 1965, USA. The son of country legend Roger Miller, Dean Miller admits that his lineage had a huge impact on his career development: ‘He influenced me in every way. He was very wise and helped me become a better person as well as a better songwriter. But I don’t think my music is anything like his.’ Miller Jnr. was as much influenced by country rockers John Mellencamp and Steve Earle as traditional country staples such as Buck Owens and Willie Nelson. He did not set out to emulate his father, and, indeed, did not take music seriously until he had completed his college studies and attempted to work as an actor in Los Angeles. He eventually went to Nashville in 1990 and began writing songs - he estimates to have between 300 and 400 on catalogue at any time.
