Biography
Although it is essentially a trio, the Washington, DC, USA-based outfit Dead Meadow makes a mighty noise that Black Sabbath would be quite proud of. Formed during autumn 1998, Dead Meadow originally comprised Jason Simon (vocals/guitar), Steve Kille (bass/sitar) and Mark Laughlin (drums). Issuing two recordings on Fugazi bass player Joe Lallys Tolotta label, 1999s Dead Meadow and 2001s Howls From The Hills (the latter of which was recorded in a barn), the trio demonstrated a taste for analogue production rather than cutting edge digital studio tricks. Moving to another label run by a fellow musician, the Brian Jonestown Massacres Anton Newcombes The Committee To Keep Music Evil, Dead Meadow issued 2002s in-concert set, Got Live If You Want It! before Laughlin was replaced by Stephen McCarty.
