24 March 1963, Montclair, New Jersey, USA. One of the most highly acclaimed trumpet players of the 90s avant garde scene, Douglas was raised in the New Jersey area, and as a talented youngster learnt to play piano, trombone and trumpet at an early age. He studied music in Barcelona and Boston, and then attended both the Berklee College Of Music and the New England Conservatory. After moving to New York City in 1984 he studied at New York University. Douglas got his first break in 1987 when he toured Europe with Horace Silver, but his trip to Switzerland the following year was to have a greater influence on his musical development, as Douglas incorporated Eastern European styles into his playing as part of a theatre troupe.
