Darius Danesh, 19 August 1980, Glasgow, Scotland. This UK pop artist owes his career to his appearances in two of the most popular UK ‘reality TV’ shows of the twenty-first century, Popstars and Pop Idol. The former English literature student endeared himself to the British public on the former, first screened in January 2001, with his a cappella assault on Britney Spears’ ‘… Baby, One More Time’ and his frank assessment of the judges’ decision to eject him from the competition. Remarkably, Danesh was given another chance to shine on the nation’s television screens when he reached the final stages of the cash-in follow-up, Pop Idol, which was first screened the same October.
