This traditional music group from County Waterford, Eire, take their name from the Celtic Goddess. Danú was formed in 1994 by Donnchadh Gough (1975, An Rinn, Waterford, Eire; bodhrán/uillean pipes), Benny McCarthy (b. Brendan McCarthy, 1975, Deelish, Dungarvan, Waterford, Eire; accordion/melodeon), Dónal Clancy (guitar) and Tricia Hutton (fiddle). The original quartet got together following an invitation to play at the Inter-Celtic Festival in Lorient, France, although by the time they performed Hutton had been replaced by Daire Bracken. Further personnel changes ensued in 1996, with Clancy replaced by Tim Murray and brothers Tom Doorley (b. 1972, Glenageary, Dublin, Eire; flute/whistle) and Éamonn Doorley (b. 1976, Glenageary, Dublin, Eire; bouzouki/fiddle), and Carthach MacCraith (vocals) augmenting the line-up.
