6 April 1946, Larchmont, New York, USA. This talented guitarist/producer/songwriter, also known as Danny Kootch and Kootch, was a member of several aspiring New York 60s groups, including the King Bees and the Flying Machine, the latter of which featured James Taylor. In 1967, Kootch joined ex-Myddle Class bass player Charles Larkey in the Fugs, where they added considerable musical dexterity to a once-anarchic act. The pair then moved to California, and having joined songwriter Carole King in the City, remained part of her studio back-up group during her subsequent, highly-successful solo career. Kootch was also reunited with James Taylor on Sweet Baby James (1970), and their rekindled relationship was to prove equally enduring. The guitarist continued his association with Larkey in Jo Mama. In 1973 he completed his solo debut, Kootch, for Warner Brothers Records.
