Biography
This maverick New Jersey, USA-based indie pop band is the creation of singer-songwriter and part-time carpenter Daniel Smith, who is joined in the line-up by various members of his family including siblings Andrew, David, Megan and Rachel, wife Elin, friends Christian and Melissa Palladino, and like-minded musicians including Sufjan Stevens, John Ringhofer and Ted Velykis. Smith inaugurated the Danielson Famile while studying at Rutgers University, and the bands 1995 debut recording A Prayer For Every Hour actually arose from work on his senior thesis. The album, which was released on the Christian label Tooth & Nail, featured 24 songs, one for each hour of the day. The albums thematic basis was explicitly Christian, even if some of the methodology for getting the message across was as far removed from CCR as it was possible to go.
