Biography

In the early years of the twenty-first century, out of the wreckage of Pantera came two offshoot bands: Superjoint Ritual (featuring former vocalist Phil Anselmo), and Damageplan, including Dimebag Darrell (Darrell Abbott, 20 August 1966, Arlington, Texas, USA, d. 8 December 2004, Columbus, Ohio, USA; guitar) and Vinnie Paul (b. Vincent Paul Abbott, 11 March 1964, Dallas, Texas, USA; drums). As founding members of Pantera, the Abbott brothers were part of one of heavy metal’s leading bands of the 90s. Shortly after the dawn of the new millennium, a wedge between Anselmo and the Abbott brothers had occurred, with the former appearing to be more interested in focusing on side projects rather then Pantera, while the latter wanted to forge ahead as Pantera. A stalemate was reached, and the band was put in mothballs.
