19 October 1976, Tifton, Georgia, USA. One of the new generation of female country singer-songwriters to emerge in the new millennium, Thomson enjoyed immediate success when her single What I Really Meant To Say topped the US country charts. Thomson, like many country artists before her, learned to sing as a member of her church choir. She left rural Georgia to study music at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The photogenic Thomson took work as a part-time model, but also teamed up with songwriter Tommy Lee James in an attempt to launch her music career. After signing a recording contract with Capitol Records in the late 90s, Thomson and James began work on the singers debut album with Dixie Chicks producer Paul Worley. My World was released in July 2001.
