Biography
Swedish perpetrators of gloomy dark and most of all, slow hardcore, Cult Of Luna formed out of the remains of vocalist Klas Rydberg and guitarist Johannes Perssons former band Eclipse. Adding Marco Hilden (drums), Andreas Johansson (bass), Erik Olofsson (guitar), and Magnus Lindberg (guitar/sound engineer), the band started rehearsing in their home city of Umea. Initial recordings resulted in a two-track demo. A split single with Switchblade followed, before the band signed to Rage Of Achilles for their self-titled debut, released in 2001. A bleak and gloomy affair, shards of electronica were balanced between the sludge-like riffs earning comparisons to Neurosis, while the tempo (or lack thereof) brought the down-tuned riffs of Saint Vitus to mind.
