Based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada this experimental electronica band was formed in 2003 by multi-instrumentalist Ethin Kath. Taking the project’s name from a castle in the animated television series She-Ra: Princess Of Power, Kath recruited Alice Glass to overdub vocals on a number of his demo tracks, and it was during these sessions that the duo contemplated wiring an old keyboard to an Atari 5200 computer soundboard. The resultant warped and layered lo-fi sound offered a novel twist sorely lacking in contemporary electronica, and when the track ‘Alice Practice’ (so-named because Glass was recorded testing the studio microphones) quickly became an Internet hit at the end of 2005 it became clear that the project had staying power.
