Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Taborn began taking a serious interest in music as a child, playing keyboards in his pre-teens. Almost from the outset, he played piano and Moog synthesizer, moving from one to the other depending upon the nature of the music being performed. Later, he added sequencer, Fender Rhodes and Hammond B-3. Owing to the record collection at the Hennepin County Public Library, he listened to a great deal of music, ranging through jazz and contemporary classical music. In Minneapolis in the 80s, he heard a wide variety of music, including the current pop scene, metal and new wave, as well as underground rock. In school in Michigan through the late 80s and early 90s, Taborn was influenced by the techno experimentation in pop, and by musicians as diverse as the AACM and Larry Young.
