Biography

1982, Villefranche-sur-Saône, Rhône, France. Raised in a musical family, her father is a clarinettist and her older brother Benjamin Biolay enjoyed success in the late 90s and early 00s as a producer and singer-songwriter. Clément played the violin as a child before putting music to one side and concentrating on her studies. It was while at university completing a history degree that Clément’s brother encouraged her to begin singing, which led directly to the recording of her debut album. Released by EMI France in 2001, Salle Des Pas-Perdus was written and arranged by Biolay and favoured a retro lounge pop style that at times bordered on the soporific, although Clément’s whispery vocals were undeniably attractive. The brother and sister act resumed their collaboration on the 2005 follow-up, Bye Bye Beauté, which was a notably more rock-orientated outing than the singer’s debut.
