Biography
Formed in 2000 by Claudio Sanchez (12 March 1978, Nyack, New York, USA; vocals/guitar), Michael Todd (b. 1980, Kingston, New York, USA; bass), Travis Stever (b. 1978, USA; guitar) and Joshua Eppard (b. 6 December 1979, USA; drums), this rock outfit can trace its origins to a high school band called Shabutie. Based in upstate New York, Coheed And Cambria secured a recording contract with Equal Vision Records on the strength of a number of demo tapes. These demos formed the basis of the bands 2002 debut The Second Stage Turbine Blade, a sci-fi concept album whose lyrical content owed more to recordings by progressive rock acts than the bands nominal post-hardcore fanbase. The music on the album embraced hardcore, metal and psychedelic rock, with Sanchezs absurdly high vocals providing the focal point.
