Biography
CocoRosie is the unusual recording name used by American sisters Sierra (Iowa, USA) and Bianca Casady (b. Hawaii, USA), who have been described by their record label as tiny field mice singing gospel. The sisters spent an itinerant childhood following their mother, a Native American teacher and painter. Sierra went on to study classical opera singing and learned to play the guitar and flute. Bianca, in contrast, received no professional training and spent several years living a bohemian life in Brooklyn. The two met up in 2003 in Paris, France where Sierra was studying at a local conservatory. They began recording on a whim, building songs around the ambient sounds they captured on four-track in Sierras tiny apartment in the Montmatre district. Bianca returned to New York at the end of the year, but a tape of the sisters lo-fi recordings came to the attention of US independent label Touch & Go, which released the completed set, La Maison...
