Biography
Liverpool, England. One of the leading UK record producers of the 80s and 90s, Langer has worked with a wide range of pop and rock artists during a lengthy career in the studio. A former student at Liverpool Art College, Langer made a start in the music business as guitarist and chief songwriter with cult 70s art rock band Deaf School. Following their demise, he formed the short-lived Boxes and recorded an EP (I Want The Whole World) and album (Splash) for the F-Beat label. By this point, however, Langer had formed a production team with Alan Winstanley, an alliance that was to prove one of the most enduring partnerships of the next three decades. Langer and Winstanley made their names as producers in the early 80s with their work on hit albums by Madness, the Teardrop Explodes (Kilimanjaro, Wilder), Dexys Midnight Runners (Too-Rye-Ay), Lloyd Cole (Easy Pieces) and Elvis Costello (Punch The Clock, Goodbye Cruel World).
