Biography
Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. This singers long career began in high school as a member of the Echoes, after which he joined the Five Pennies, for whom he wrote a 1956 release, Mr. Moon. Curry was later a member of several groups, including the Hollyhocks (1957) and the Bubba Suggs Band (1957-1964). As Sweet Clifford he recorded for the Nashville-based Excello label, before beginning work with the Fabulous Six and the Contenders. He resumed his solo status in 1967 with the pulsating She Shot A Hole In My Soul. An R&B hit that year, the song is better known in Britain for Geno Washingtons tame cover version. Curry was unable to repeat this success, although he continues to record and perform on the thriving vintage soul-based beach music scene.
