Biography

This 80s UK experimental quartet was fronted by the shaven-headed Sal Solo (5 September 1954, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England), whose uncompromising vocal style gelled uneasily with his musicians’ synthesizer dance beat. Originally appearing on Stevo’s Some Bizzare Records sample album, the group signed to Liberty Records in 1981 and recorded a series of albums, ranging from the gargantuan to the quirky unmelodic. Four of their singles reached the UK Top 75 during 1981 and the following year they scored their biggest success with ‘Is It A Dream’, which climbed to number 11. Perpetually on the periphery, the group’s limited chart success and affiliation with a major label did little to offset their determinedly avant garde approach. By the mid-80s, the unit folded with Sal going solo and releasing Heart And Soul in 1985.
