Biography

When David Gedge (23 April 1960, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; guitar/vocals) finally laid the critically lauded Wedding Present to rest in January 1997, he immediately launched his new project Cinerama, an apt name for a band that was formed to indulge his love of soundtrack music. Gedge’s primary collaborator in Cinerama was his girlfriend Sally Murrell, although he was joined at various stages of the band’s career by members of the Wedding Present, the Church, the Delgados and Goya Dress. Cinerama’s debut album, Va Va Voom, retained the Wedding Present’s trademark lovelorn and lustful lyrics but added a richer, warmer instrumental backing drawing on Gedge’s fascination with the work of Burt Bacharach and John Barry.
