Biography
When David Gedge (23 April 1960, Leeds, Yorkshire, England; guitar/vocals) finally laid the critically lauded Wedding Present to rest in January 1997, he immediately launched his new project Cinerama, an apt name for a band that was formed to indulge his love of soundtrack music. Gedges primary collaborator in Cinerama was his girlfriend Sally Murrell, although he was joined at various stages of the bands career by members of the Wedding Present, the Church, the Delgados and Goya Dress. Cineramas debut album, Va Va Voom, retained the Wedding Presents trademark lovelorn and lustful lyrics but added a richer, warmer instrumental backing drawing on Gedges fascination with the work of Burt Bacharach and John Barry. Several further single and EP releases paid testament to Gedges renowned productivity, prior to the release of the Steve Albini -produced Disco Volante.
