Biography
A satirical offshoot from New York rock innovators Sonic Youth, Ciccone Youth comprise essentially the same personnel: Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), Kim Gordon (bass, vocals), Lee Ranaldo (guitar), plus various drummers and other collaborators. The band had long been fascinated by the impact Madonna was having on a generation. Moore had previously mounted a photo of the artist on the cover of his own fanzine Killer. The bands infatuation was also prefaced with the track Madonna, Sean And Me on Sonic Youths E.V.O.L. album. It was November 1986 when the name Ciccone Youth was first employed, however. The single Into The Groove(y) was a direct parody of Madonnas original, with Moores vocals overlaid in a manner that suggested a duet.
