Biography

Charles Samuel Loeb, 12 July 1955, Suffern, New York, USA. Raised in Nyack, New York, Loeb began playing guitar at the age of 11. He played in various local bands until going to the Berklee College Of Music. After leaving Berklee in 1976 he toured with Chico Hamilton, Hubert Laws and Ray Barretto, making his breakthrough in 1979 when he joined Stan Getz. He stayed with Getz for two years, touring Europe and playing at the Jazz Yatra Festival in India. In 1985 he joined Michael Brecker’s Steps Ahead, where he doubled on guitar synthesizer. Subsequently, he has appeared on over 1, 000 recordings as a session musician and composed underscores for numerous television soaps and documentaries.

He has regularly led his own bands, co-led others, and also worked extensively with the groups Metro, the Fantasy Band, and Petite Blonde. During the 80s he became deeply involved in record producing, continuing in this role into the late 90s although,...
