Biography
Emerging from Montreal in 2002, this Canadian synth pop duo was formed by Pee Thugg (Patrick Gemayel; keyboards/talk box) and Dave 1 (b. David Macklovitch; guitar/vocals). The latter was a busy presence on the Canadian hip-hop scene in the late 90s and early 00s, co-founding the Audio Research Records label with his brother (DJ A-Trak) and working as hip-hop editor at Vice magazine. He had collaborated on musical projects with Gemayel since their high school days, with the duo forming Chromeo to indulge their love of 80s electronic pop. The cheerful electro funk of the Youre So Gangsta single was repeated on 2004s Shes In Control, which also flirted with the equally outdated new romanticism and new jack swing styles.
