c. 1983, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Playing trumpet from the age of 12, Scott was given tuition by his uncle, alto saxophonist Donald Harrison, before he attended the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. This was followed by a spell at Berklee College Of Music from where he graduated in 2004. Thereafter, Scott swiftly became a recognized presence on the contemporary jazz scene. His music was not narrowly circumscribed however and he readily incorporated into his repertoire traces of rock, funk and soul. Scotts 2006 debut for the Concord label was nominated for a Grammy Award and he was soon widely acclaimed as an important new voice in contemporary jazz. His performances are tinged with subtle variations in colour created by his use of cornet and flügelhorn in addition to the trumpet.
