Biography
This incredibly prolific art-rock band was formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, in 1979 by singer Rozz Williams (Roger Alan Painter, 1964, d. 1 April 1998, West Hollywood, California, USA). The original line-up additionally comprised Rikk Agnew (guitar, ex-Adolescents), James McGearly (bass) and George Belanger (drums), but afterwards the groups composition would fluctuate rapidly. Finding success in their homeland elusive, the group relocated to Europe in 1983, where they fitted in perfectly with the gothic rock fashion. Shunning the easy route to success, the band have since remained on the periphery of rock, and Christian Deaths independence from prevailing trends has secured themselves a strong cult following, if little commercial or critical recognition.
