20 July 1964, Seattle, Washington, USA. Cornell rose to prominence as a member of Soundgarden, one of the leading exponents, alongside Nirvana and Pearl Jam, of the Seattle grunge sound of the early 90s. Cornell set about recording his debut album with the help of Alain Johannes and Natasha Sneider of cult Los Angeles band, Eleven, following the break-up of Soundgarden in April 1997. Euphoria Morning, eventually released in September 1999, largely eschewed the muscular rock style of his former band, while building on the creative leaps made by them on their 1994 high water mark, Superunknown. The album earned glowing comparisons to the late Jeff Buckley, thanks in no part to the sweeping range of musical styles and Cornells emotive lyrics, most evident on standout track Wave Goodbye with its aching falsetto bridge.
