Biography

This Cleveland, Ohio, USA-based metalcore band is commonly grouped in the ‘groove metal’ genre, playing a fusion of thrash metal and hardcore punk. Taking its name from a lion-headed monster in Greek mythology, the band was formed in 1998 by Mark Hunter (26 May 1977, USA; vocals), Jason Hager (guitar), Rob Arnold (b. 3 January 1980, USA; guitar), Jim LaMarca (b. 25 June 1974, USA; bass), Andols Herrick (b. 11 September 1979; drums), and Chris Spicuzza (electronics). Their debut EP, This Present Darkness, was released in 2000 on the independent East Coast Empire Records label, but such was its popularity that the band was offered a contract with the noted heavy metal label, Roadrunner Records. The intensity of the EP and the band’s fabled live show was repeated to good effect on the full-length Pass Out Of Existence, released on Roadrunner in 2001.
