Charles Allen Bouton, c.1966, Bristol, Tennessee, USA. As a small child Allen took what proved to be an abiding interest in country music and learned to play piano and guitar. While still very young, he appeared on stage, precociously sharing bills with artists such as Hank Williams Jnr. and Loretta Lynn. In his early teenage years, Allen led his own band, the Bouton Brothers, and was already filling his repertoire with his own compositions. Although still mostly playing in and around his home town, Allen regularly opened for star-name touring shows.
Allen has continued to centre his repertoire on his own compositions, which include Better Said Than Done (written in collaboration with Earl Thomas Conley and Nelson Larkin), Once In A While (with Ron Reynolds), and No More Tears (with Larkin, Gary Baker and Frank Meyers).
