Formed in Switzerland in 1984 from the ashes of the thrash metal-inspired Hellhammer, Celtic Frosts focal point was Thomas Gabriel Warrior (Thomas Gabriel Fischer, 19 July 1966, Zurich, Switzerland; guitar, vocals). Together with Martin Eric Ain (bass) and Stephen Priestly (drums), the groups 1984 debut was a thrash metal landmark, with guttural vocals splintering the grim music. Ain was replaced by bass player Dominic Steiner for To Mega Therion, while Reed St. Mark was drummer for Emperors Return. Their next album, Into The Pandemonium, was Celtic Frosts legacy to the metal world, a major work that has been loosely described as avant garde thrash. It marked the return of Ain as well as the introduction of second guitarist Ron Marks.
