30 April 1971, Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. This country singer-songwriter was raised on a farm in Deadwood, Alberta, learning to play piano and singing in church. After finishing college Johnson relocated to Vancouver where she attended recording engineering school and performed her own material at any opportunity. She moved to her spiritual home of Nashville, Texas in the mid-90s. A publishing deal with Patrick Joseph Music was supplemented by work as a studio vocalist on albums by Mindy McCready, Martina McBride, Patty Loveless, and Kenny Rogers among others. She toured with McBride in 1999 and signed a recording contract with Arista Records. Her reputation received another boost when Chely Wright took her ‘Single White Female’ to the top of the country charts the same year.
