Biography
Edward P. Harris, 22 August 1923, Leasburg, North Carolina, USA, d. 22 October 1953, Newark, New Jersey, USA. Little is known about Harris, but it seems that he started his musical career in North Carolina and moved to Newark about the time of his first recordings in 1950. Records followed on three different labels, under four different pseudonyms; Carolina Slim, Jammin Jim, Country Paul and Lazy Slim Jim. These records are unusual for their time in that many of them feature solo country blues, either in the Carolina style of Blind Boy Fuller, or blatant copies of Lightnin Hopkins, although all are skilful and convincing performances. At his best, Slim could synthesize his influences to produce a satisfyingly distinctive sound, but unfortunately he did not live long enough to develop a real style of his own.
