Biography
Although initially formed in the 30s, the Camp Creek Boys, an old-time mountain string band, made their name in the music following recordings made in the 60s. They originated in the Blue Ridge Mountains area of Surrey County, North Carolina. Musicians who played with the band include Kyle Creed (the leader, who both made and played banjos), Fred Cockerham (3 November 1905, d. 8 July 1980; fiddle/banjo), Paul Sutphin (b. 1 October 1918, Round Park Mountain, North Carolina, USA, d. 28 August 2004, Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA; guitar), Roscoe Russell (guitar), Verlen Clifton (mandolin), Ronald Collins (guitar) and Ernest East (fiddle).
