Biography
6 July 1944, Caldwell, Kansas, USA. This masterful newgrass fiddle player has been a much sought-after session man in addition to his spells with a number of prestigious country rock groups, notably the Dillards, Dillard And Clark Expedition, the Flying Burrito Brothers and his own highly respected Country Gazette and Sundance. His father Luke was also a bluegrass fiddler and Byron started playing at the age of five. Later on he studied music at the University Of Oklahoma and it was there that he formed his first band. He joined the Dillards after a spell with Bill Monroe and followed Doug Dillard when he teamed up with Gene Clark in 1968. Over the years he has appeared on albums by the Rolling Stones (Honky Tonk Woman, and Country Honk from Let It Bleed), Dan Baird and Vince Gill, in addition to his ongoing work with Dan Crary and John Hickman as BCH, and with Crary, Hickman and John Moore (mandolin, vocals) as California.
