Biography
This metalcore band was formed in 1998 in Bridgend, Wales, by Matthew Tuck (20 January 1980, Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales; guitar/vocals), Michael Paget (b. 12 September 1978, Wales; guitar/vocals), Michael Thomas (b. 4 June 1981, Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales; drums) and Nik Crandle (bass). The quartet was originally known as Jeff Killed John and struggled to get by on the live circuit, playing a mixture of original material and cover version of heavy metal songs. Things began to look up when Jason James (b. 13 January 1981, Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales) was brought in as a replacement for Cradle, and the band changed its name to Opportunity In Chicago and then Bullet For My Valentine. Their early demos caught the ear of the independent label Visible Noise, who signed the quartet in 2004 and released their debut EPs, Bullet For My Valentine and Hand Of Blood (with worldwide distribution by Sony BMG).
