Biography
Urban R&B trio Brownstone were formed in Los Angeles, California, USA, by Nicci (Nicole Gilbert, 8 June 1970, Detroit, Michigan, USA), Maxee (b. Charmayne Maxwell, 11 January 1969, Guyana) and Mimi (b. Monica Doby, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA). Signed after performing a cappella at their audition, the trio became the first act on the Epic-distributed MJJ Music label. Their debut album featured the Grammy-nominated Top 10 single If You Love Me, and led to a prestigious support slot on Boyz II Mens 1995 US tour. Despite a personnel change when Kina (b. Kina Cosper, Detroit, Michigan, USA) replaced Mimi in June 1995, their growing reputation led to further tours with Anita Baker, BLACKstreet and Patti Labelle.
