Biography
The inception of Canadian band Broken Social Scene came out of the demise of a number of Torontos indie bands, notably By Divine Right and K.C. Accidental. The band was formed in 1999 when Kevin Drew (Canada) and Brendan Canning (b. Canada) began jamming in various basements and bedrooms around the Toronto area. During the winter of 2000/1, they completed the Broken Social Scene debut, Feel Good Lost. Although primarily a collaboration between Drew and Canning, the album did feature appearances by a number of guest musicians (Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Bill Priddle) who would later enter the line-up of the outfit. The sound on the album recalled the hallucinogenic sonic melodies of pioneering UK indie bands the Cocteau Twins, Spaceman 3 and My Bloody Valentine.
