Biography

19 July 1947, Hampton, Middlesex, England. Best known as the guitarist in rock band Queen, May has also enjoyed notable solo success. In the summer of 1983, he teamed up with Eddie Van Halen (guitar), REO Speedwagon’s Alan Gratzer (drums), Fred Mandel (keyboards) and Phil Chen (bass) for a supergroup session, which was released under the title Star Fleet Project. He subsequently produced the spoof heavy metal group Bad News, as well as the recording of ‘Anyone Can Fall In Love’ by his actress partner Anita Dobson. He also worked with Steve Hackett, completed a solo album and, in 1991, wrote and recorded the score for a production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Following a commission for an advertisement by the Ford Motor Company in 1991, May released a further single, ‘Driven By You’, which became a UK Top 10 hit in December 1991.
