Biography
16 November 1924, Coita, Mississippi, USA, d. 30 August 1999, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Phillips was on the Chicago blues scene from the mid-50s, when he worked briefly with Memphis Minnie, and from 1957-75 he played rhythm guitar for Hound Dog Taylor, taking occasional solos, and contributing significantly to the HouseRockers brash, energetic sound. After Taylors death he continued to work the Chicago clubs, making occasional wider forays, and recording tracks that had the unpretentious, funky drive of his former leader, and revealed him to be a capable blues singer. He regularly collaborated with pianist Aaron Moore and guitarist Cub Koda.
