Biography
This Manchester, England-based outfit was formed in March 1994 when singer Muffin Spencer (New Hampshire, USA) recruited Jonny Barrington (drums), Stefan Gordon (guitar) and Karen Frost (bass). After moving to Manchester in the late 80s to pursue her obsession with the Smiths, Spencer (the younger sister of Jon Spencer of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) spent a short time with the Exuberants, a group favoured by the patronage of Morrissey during this time. Brassy made their performance debut in June 1995, recording their debut single, the sexually themed Boss, in early 1996. The bands composition and sound made comparisons to Elastica inevitable, though Spencer made apparent her antipathy for both that band and fellow Britpop stars Blur quickly, citing the latter as evil.
