Biography
Originally from the town of Midland in Simcoe County, Ontario, Luke LaLonde (guitar/vocals), Mitch Derosier (bass) and Steven Hamelin (drums) relocated to the provinces capital Toronto in 2004. A burgeoning online reputation and a series of wild live performances led to a contract with the UK electronic music label Warp Records, which by the mid-00s had begun to diversify into other musical genres. The trios self-titled debut EP bristled with youthful fervour, with the six short tracks whipping by in a frenzy of jerky rhythms and staccato post-punk guitar. The power pop opener, This Sentence Will Ruin/Save Your Life, gained a fair amount of radio play, and the following year the trio returned with the similarly styled Hummingbird.
